If you have inherited a vehicle and have no inheritance documents yet, you can first register it on the temporary basis in your name, i.e. for a period up to 1 year until all inheritance procedures will be performed. You must then apply within 1 year for permanent registration and must already submit inheritance documents.
You can register the vehicle on the temporary basis at "Regitra" branch.
Register in advance for a visit to the branch and you will be serviced at the time convenient for you:
Provide at "Regitra" branch your Personal Identity Card or passport.
If you want to drive the vehicle in public traffic, arrange for its mandatory roadworthiness test (when it has expired) and obtain Compulsory Motor Third Party Liability Insurance.
After the vehicle has been registered on the temporary basis, a new registration certificate with a fixed registration date (valid for a period of 1 year) from the date of receipt of the data on the death of the vehicle owner will be issued.
NOTE. After the death of the former owner of the vehicle, "Regitra" receives information about this automatically from the Population Register. A 14-day term is calculated from the date of receipt of this data. If the inheritor of the vehicle has not applied for its registration within this period of time, a permit to use the vehicle in public traffic is suspended.
