Independent driving task (driving according to navigation)

From 1 November 2021, a new task of independent driving – driving according to navigation – will be introduced to category B practice test.

  • Purpose of the task

This innovation aims to ensuring that, after passing the test, the future driver would feel more confident in his abilities and be as prepared as possible for real situations on the road: would learn to distribute his attention correctly and plan a trip on his own, without the training instructor or examiner.

  • What are the essential things that have to be known?
    • The independent driving task will last from 10 to 15 minutes, by maintaining the overall duration of the test similar to what has been the case so far.
    • The task will start not earlier than 10 minutes after starting to drive on the public road.
    • Before the start of the task, the examiner will enter the destination into the navigation device.
    • During the task, the examiner may also ask the examinee to perform a special driving manoeuvre (for example, to park the car in a certain way, to turn around in a limited area, etc.), if there is a place on the way that is suitable for this purpose.
  • Evaluation

After the addition of the new task, the practical test evaluation system remains the same. As during the entire test, the examinee must observe the environment, the behaviour of other road users, and abide by the Road traffic rules.

It is also important to know that in the event that, during the test, the driver will inadvertently not turn where needed or take a route other than that indicated by the navigation device, this is not considered a mistake and will not affect the final result of the test. In such cases, the driver should not get confused and follow the traffic signs until the navigation device will recalculate the route.
