Information for novice drivers in violation of Road Traffic Rules or committing a Traffic Offence

  • When is a novice driver subject to completion of the additional driver training?

    Novice drivers (drivers that have not accumulated 2 years of driving experience) are required to complete additional driver training within a year following a committed Traffic Offence during which health of a Road User was disturbed or violation of one or more of the below stated Road Traffic Rules.

    Additional driver training can be completed at any driving school providing the aforementioned training.

    NOTE. Failure to complete the additional driver training within a year will constitute a loss of the right to drive and your driver's licence shall not be subject to an exchange of a novice driver's licence for a new driver's licence that is valid for 10 years. Your right to drive shall be reinstated only upon successful passing of the driving test (theory and practical tests). Following the successful completion of the aforementioned tests, you will be issued a new driver's licence valid for 3 years.

  • Violation of Road Traffic Rules that require completion of additional driver training

    Violation of Road Traffic Rules that require completion of additional driver training are as follows:

     

    • Failure to carry out and perform the driver's duties in respect of pedestrians;
    • Failure to adhere and observe the rules for overtaking;
    • Failure to refrain from use of mobile devices while driving;
    • Failure to adhere and observe traffic control signals;
    • Failure to oblige and use of warning signals as stipulated within the Road Traffic Rules;
    • Failure to adhere and observe the procedure for entering and crossing crossroads;
    • Failure to use seat belts and motorcycle helmets when driving the appropriate motor vehicle;
    • Failure to adhere to the prescribed speed limit requirements;
    • Operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
